With OreSpawn 4.1 or newer installed, Base Metals contributes one configuration screen to OreSpawn's world-creation interface. Open Create World → OreSpawn → Mods, then use the cog beside Base Metals.
You can also open the same screen from the main menu through Mods → Base Metals → Config.
The screen edits the existing config/BaseMetals.cfg file. It does not create a
second configuration file. It exposes the existing 92 boolean settings plus
the restart-required General/contentMode selector under the five historical
categories:
- General
- Base Metals
- Vanilla Bits
- Molten Fluids
- Forced Traits
All settings affect registered content and require Minecraft to be restarted. They do not alter pending settings in the current OreSpawn world-creation session. Use OreSpawn's own editor for ore dimensions and distributions.
Disabling one of the eleven materials whose ore is generated by OreSpawn shows
an additional confirmation with the matching basemetals:legacy/*_ore rule.
Disable that rule in OreSpawn before restarting; otherwise the provider still
refers to a block that Base Metals will no longer register.
Done saves through Forge's normal Base Metals configuration event. Escape discards edits on both category and root pages. Forge supplies the standard Undo, Defaults, and restart-confirmation behavior.
The Achievements setting controls the 18 historical gameplay achievements, including Juggernaut for a complete equipped Adamantine suit, SCUBA Diver for a submerged Aquarium suit, and Moon Walker for equipped Starsteel boots. They appear as advancements with the usual notification. Disabling a material also omits achievements that require its items; it is safe to leave achievements enabled. Recipe-book unlocks operate independently of this setting.
- High Fantasy (
high_fantasy) is the default and preserves the complete historical Base Metals recipe, trade, loot, integration, and ore set. - Low Fantasy (
low_fantasy) keeps fantasy materials but removes equipment and construction forms that do not fit the reviewed material policy. Base Metals bows, crossbows, and fishing rods are unavailable in this mode.
An older BaseMetals.cfg without contentMode is treated exactly like an
explicit high_fantasy configuration. Unrecognized values are corrected to High
Fantasy. The mode is chosen when Minecraft starts. A client using a different
mode from the server is disconnected with an explanatory
Base Metals message before gameplay.
The mode belongs to the Minecraft instance or dedicated server, not to an individual save. After a restart, the selected mode applies to every world opened with that installation, including existing worlds. Base Metals does not prompt or block a world whose previous session used a different mode.
Content modes do not change OreSpawn's eleven ore rules. To disable ore generation, edit the rules in OreSpawn separately. Existing global overrides and saved-world profiles are not rewritten when the mode changes.
Development, CI, and release qualification use the published OreSpawn
4.1.0.112021 CurseForge artifact. Base Metals pins its exact CurseForge file
ID and SHA-256 and verifies the mod metadata and required client API classes
before accepting the dependency.
