Root cause: This isn't a bug in FSharp.Data's XSD parsing — it's an issue with the schema file itself. DASH-MPD.xsd uses attributes from the (www.w3.org/redacted) namespace (e.g. xlink:href) on some elements, but it does **not** declare/import that namespace via an (xs:import namespace="(www.w3.org/redacted) .../). Many XML tools apply lax processing for undeclared namespaces/attributes and silently ignore this, but .NET's System.Xml.Schema.XmlSchemaSet(whichXmlProvideruses under the hood viaXmlReader/XmlSchemaSet.Compile()) enforces strict validation and throws XmlSchemaException: The '(www.w3.org/redacted) attribute is not declared.` when it encounters an attribute reference it can't resolve.

This is a known characteristic of the published DASH-MPD schema — it's not something XmlProvider can safely work around without weakening schema validation for everyone (which risks masking real user errors in other schemas).

Workarounds you can try today:

1. Download the .xsd locally, add an explicit import of the W3C xlink schema near the top:

   <xs:import namespace="(www.w3.org/redacted) schemaLocation="(www.w3.org/redacted)

   then point XmlProvider<Schema=...> at your local, patched copy.
2. Skip schema-based inference and use a sample XML document instead (XmlProvider<"sample.xml">), which doesn't require strict XSD validation.

I don't think there's a safe, general code fix on the FSharp.Data side here since it would mean relaxing strict schema compliance for all users. Let me know if you'd like help patching a local copy of the schema.
