Add a selectable panel look and drag-to-resize width - #1034
Stacked on #1016. This branch contains the commits of #1016 plus one more, so until #1016 merges the "Files changed" tab shows both. Review only the last commit, 02683931f ("Add a selectable panel look and drag-to-resize width"). This PR is a draft until #1016 lands; I will rebase it then.
Two follow-ups to the tray panel redesign:
Selectable look. Settings > Menu > Panel look switches between Modern (the Redesign the tray panel #1016 layout) and Classic (the layout from before it). Classic is the unchanged tray-card.css; the modern rules move to tray-card-modern.css, every selector scoped to .menu-surface--modern. Components branch on the setting: the metric row order, the section order and hairlines, the always-open Cost dashboard, the icon-only switcher, menu icons and shortcut hints, and the About label with the version. Modern stays the default.
Drag-to-resize width. Either vertical edge of the tray panel is a drag handle. The width is saved (tray_panel_width, 280 to 560 px at 100 % Panel scale, default 310) and applies on top of Panel scale. The handles are keyboard separators too: arrow keys step the width by 10 px, Home or a double-click restores 310 px. Height still fits the content.
New settings: tray_panel_style (modern or classic) and tray_panel_width. They are in the settings snapshot and patch, the preferences export and import, docs/CONFIGURATION.md, and five new locale keys in all ten languages.

Validation
Run on Windows 11:
tsc --noEmit, pnpm run lint (no new warnings in the touched files), pnpm run check-locale: clean.
cargo test --manifest-path rust/Cargo.toml settings: 259 passed, including new tests for the defaults, normalization and clamping of both settings.
cargo test --manifest-path apps/desktop-tauri/src-tauri/Cargo.toml apply_display_settings: 7 passed, including a new patch test.
pnpm exec vitest run: the new and changed tests pass (resize handle drag, keys, clamping and Panel scale; the saved width reaching the native window; the drag preview and save on release; Classic and Modern rendering of the menu, switcher, metric row and dashboard; the Panel look picker; the stylesheet scoping). 14 tests fail with and without this change: number and date formatting tests that read the system locale, which is tr-TR on my machine ($9,00 instead of $9.00).
I installed a release build of this branch over my own CodexBar and it starts. I did not drag the edges in the real window or check how the flyout re-anchors while a drag runs.
Not run: cargo fmt (rustfmt is not installed on this machine), scripts\local-check.ps1, the thermo-nuclear code quality review.
UI / tray proof

CUA Driver visual proof attached
CUA Driver could not be used; equivalent manual proof and explanation attached
Rendered in Chromium on Windows over the mocked-IPC proof build at the real 310 px width (2x) for Classic and Modern, and at 430 px for Modern. The new classic-look proof fixture and tray-classic-look scenario cover Classic, but pnpm proof:check does not get a surface ready for most scenarios on my machine (with or without this change), so that scenario has not run. Dragging, the native window size and re-anchoring are not covered by the browser proof and still need the real window.
Notes for reviewers
Specificity does the switching: modern rules carry the extra .menu-surface--modern class, so tray-card-modern.css loads before tray-card.css and still wins. trayCardStyles.test.ts pins both the import order and the scoping.
Dragging uses screen coordinates, so the panel moving under the pointer while it re-anchors does not skew the drag. Which edge stays put depends on the tray position (reanchor); on a bottom-right taskbar the left edge follows the pointer.
Judgment calls: Modern is the default, the width range is 280 to 560, and the modern tabs stop growing at 96 px when few providers are on.
Choose between Modern and Classic Windows tray-panel styles in Menu settings.
Resize the tray panel from either edge, using drag or keyboard controls; double-click an edge to restore the default width. Widths range from 280–560 px.
Modern style features provider tabs, larger type, and a collapsible Cost section; Classic retains the earlier layout.
Tray appearance and width are saved with preferences and included in portable exports.
Documentation
Updated configuration guidance with the new settings and resizing controls.
Labelled provider tabs over a quota underline, larger card headers, thick
quota bars with the percent under them on the left and the reset on the
right, hairline-separated sections, a collapsible Cost section and a
text-only menu on a soft tinted surface.
Tests, the proof scenarios and the changelog follow the new layout.

The collapsed Cost summary now shows the History window in the six-KPI
layout instead of the quota window, and the All tab is wide enough for
full-width localized labels.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Settings > Menu > Panel look switches between the new Modern layout and the
previous Classic one. Classic is the unchanged tray-card.css; the modern rules
live in tray-card-modern.css under .menu-surface--modern.
Dragging either vertical edge of the tray panel changes its width (280 to
560 px at 100% Panel scale). The width is saved, arrow keys on the focused
edge step it, and a double-click or Home restores 310 px.

Keyboard focus may be hard to see, and the widest scaled panel may not fit on a small display. These are bounded issues to address or explicitly accept before merging.

Full details: Provider Data Stays Siloed
Explanation
The change only adds panel-style and width handling, layout ordering, and resize behavior. Provider cards still receive each ProviderUsageSnapshot from the matching cardEntries provider, and the new sections pass that same provider's IDs and data to child components. No new provider-specific ProviderId matching or cross-provider identity, plan, account, or email handling appears in the changed implementation. The provider-specific conditions observed in MenuCard.tsx are pre-existing context, not introduced by this diff.
Full details: Secrets Handled Safely
Explanation
PASS. The diff adds only tray-panel style/width settings, UI behavior, tests, locales, and documentation. Added settings fields are non-secret values (tray_panel_style and tray_panel_width); token references are usage-metric test text, not credentials. No added console.*, println!, tracing/log calls, credential-like literals, authorization headers, secure-file/keyring access, or credential-file deletion/overwrite appears in the changed code.
Full details: No Unapproved Dependencies
Explanation
The pull-request diff changes no Cargo.toml, package.json, lockfile, or package-manager configuration file. It does not add a dependency, add a lockfile, or change the pinned pnpm version. Approval is therefore not required.
Full details: Ui Changes Include Windows Proof
Explanation
The pull request changes visible tray UI and settings behavior. The description includes a Windows 11 proof note: it reports rendering Classic and Modern in Chromium from the mocked-IPC proof build, and installing a release build of the branch. This satisfies the requirement for a proof note from a fresh Windows build.

Clamp the scaled width to the work area.
baseWidth can be 560 and trayScale can be 200%, so width can reach 1120. getWorkAreaRect() is used only for height. Clamp the effective width to the work-area width in the same logical units as LogicalSize before applying it.
The width-only commit already calls reanchorTrayPanel().

Minor · Functional Correctness · Quick win
Make the keyboard focus indicator on the resize handle clearly visible.
The :focus-visible rule removes the outline. It relies on a rgba(47, 107, 242, 0.32) fill on a 6px strip. The panel surface is a light tint, so this fill is far below the 3:1 contrast that a focus indicator needs. Keyboard users cannot easily see that the separator has focus.
Use an opaque accent color for the focus state. The hover state can stay translucent.
Based on learnings: "Interactive elements need logical keyboard access and visible focus indicators with at least 3:1 contrast."

Thanks. Keeping Classic available next to the redesign, plus a resizable width, both make sense. Since this is stacked on #1016, we'll review #1016 first and do a full pass here once it's in. A few things to take care of in the meantime:
Width bigger than the screen.useTrayPanelLayout.ts limits the height to the work area but not the width. At 560 px with 200% Panel scale the panel asks for 1,120 px. Please clamp the effective width to the work-area width, in the same logical units as LogicalSize.
Resize-handle focus.:focus-visible removes the outline and leaves a 32%-opacity fill on a 6 px strip, which is hard to see. Please use an opaque accent for the focus state; hover can stay translucent.
Real-window proof. The browser proof can't cover dragging, the native window size or re-anchoring, and those are the risky parts. Please attach a capture from a real build: a drag from each edge, the saved width after reopening the panel, and the panel re-anchoring correctly on a bottom-right taskbar. See docs/WINDOWS_PROOF.md for the proof mode and the cua-driver loop.
cargo fmt --all. It wasn't run. Please run it, or we'll check it on our side.
