Short description
PCD in Dortmund - Talks, Workshops, Meetup
Full event description
In the context of YU Festival, focused on media, art and social discourses, we organize our Processing Community Day in Koproduktionslabor with workshops, talks, installations, with special guests who will present their projects and talk about their experience around creative coding and community building.
Creative Coding Beginner-Workshop 22.10.26 - 16:00 - 19:00
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Processing, this workshop offers an easy, hands-on introduction to the creative coding language p5.js, a programming language specifically designed to make code more accessible.
In this course, we approach programming from an artistic perspective: We use p5.js as a digital painting tool. Using simple geometric shapes, colors, and algorithms, you’ll build visual compositions step by step and create your first programmed sketches.
The workshop is designed for absolute beginners. No prior programming experience is required. Just bring your own laptop!
Hackathon KoLab Days x ATEM Biennale: "Connections"
Under the theme “Connections,” we’ll spend two days collaboratively developing an interactive VR installation that explores forms of interaction and coexistence in digital spaces. In doing so, we aim to examine how virtual environments influence our communication and behavior, and what new forms of closeness, distance, community, and separation can emerge there.
- PdXR – Pure Data im Augmented Reality Metaverse Workshop - 22.10.26, 16:00 - 19:00
- Blender 3D Modeling for Webart Workshop - 22.10.26, 16:00 - 19:00
- Hackathon Working Phase - 24.10.26, 12:00 - 22:00
- Shared worlds – Interaktive Augmented Reality-Welten mit A-Frame Workshop - 25.10.26 - 16:00 - 19:00:
- Hackathon Presentation / Showcase - 25.10.26, 16:00 - 20:00
Coding Jam
In this coding jam, we’ll transform code and visuals into a “Collective Mess.” Instead of perfect code or finished results, the focus is on sketching, discarding, experimenting, and deliberately disrupting. Using Vibe Coding as a medium and a variety of inputs, from cameras to mini-keyboards to microphones, we’ll experiment with code and interaction.
On a shared digital canvas, thoughts, discussions, and images overlap, merge into new layers, and transform into something entirely new. The collective painting thus becomes a living reflection of your ideas.
First presented in the foyer of the Dortmunder U, the collaborative work then migrates to the metaverse, where it will continue to live on in the hackathon’s digital space.
Collective Mess Installation
Writing on the wall and, Oops you misspelled a word! better cross it and write on top of it, or just leave like that, it looks cool anyway. Doing a drawing together with people you just met to see that tomorrow someone has added flowers and a silly mustache to it. Yet another person added a quote from their favourite song and then changed completely the meaning of the drawing. Come back again the day after, and your drawing, that used to sit alone, is now surrounded by a wall full of all kinds of messages and moving images: private memories, hidden desires, some are jokes, some are complaints, some are nostalgic, others are just intriguing.
Using easy-to-code tools programmed in Processing and simple input devices such as webcams and buttons, everybody who desires can participate into this “Collective Mess”: an animated digital graffiti wall that updates itself in real time.
Community visions - Panel discussion
Community Visions brings together artists, creatives, and organizers who share their visions for new digital spaces and forms of creative togetherness. How can digital spaces become places where we think, make, learn, and dream together? What new forms of community can emerge? And what becomes possible when we see the digital not simply as a space we use, but as a space we collectively shape and reinvent?
Discussion guests: ATEM Biennial-Toplap Düsseldorf, Camilo Sandoval, Camilla Scholz, Flor de Fuego, Sam Hopkins, Raphaël de Courville
