Summary

Part 1 of 5 of the Warp Factories docs audit (split out of #852). Fixes the two pages whose claims had drifted furthest from the product: what skills a new factory ships with, and whether setup picks models.

Changes

factory-skills.mdx

  • Rewrites the built-in skills section to match what warp-server seeds: code-quality, code-review, ui-verification, the connected code host's skill (github, gitlab, or azuredevops), slack or microsoft-teams, and linear or jira, all written as files under the definition's skills/ directory and available to every agent, including custom ones. The page previously said every default agent gets a GitHub skill, the foreman a Slack skill, and that these "aren't files in your definition".
  • Replaces the three-term labels ("Warp-provided platform-bundled skills", "Custom file-based factory skills") with built-in, custom, and bundled.
  • Drops the 14-row bundled-skill ID table and the read_skill attribution section, which also live on api-and-sdk/index.mdx; the page now links there.

factory-agents.mdx

  • Built-in skills shrink to a two-sentence summary that links to factory-skills.mdx.
  • "Factory setup doesn't choose models for you" becomes "Setup assigns each default agent a model suited to its role"; setup seeds a model per role.
  • The run_agents / agent_identity_uid section is rewritten for a human reader (it read as instructions to the foreman), and the automations paragraph that sat under it gets its own heading.
  • "Custom agents have no built-in skills" corrected: they get the factory-wide skills but no role instructions.
  • The two paragraphs restating the decision table are cut to one sentence; a ## Related pages section is added.

platform/orchestration/index.mdx

  • Points at the renamed factory-agents.mdx anchor.

Content design plan

Audience and JTBD: A team lead reading how the default agents work before customizing them.

Problem: The skills claims contradicted the shipped definition, and the dispatch section was written for the agent rather than the reader.

Goals: Both pages describe the seeded definition as it ships; skills are explained once.

Content type: Existing feature pages; no new pages.

High-impact scenarios: Covers built-in skills, default models, custom agents, and dispatch. Excludes the bundled-skill catalog (stays on the API page).

Unverified claims

None.

Documentation risk

Risk: engineering-review-required
Rationale: Changes product claims about built-in factory skills and default agent models. The seeded skill directory and its factory-wide placement were confirmed in logic/factory_source_export.go and logic/factoryfile/path.go at the same commit.
Source files consulted: warp-server/logic/factorysource/defaults/skills.go@cf7e9149d422, seeds.go@cf7e9149d422 (same directory)
Engineering review status: pending
Docs override: none

Validation

npm run build, check_links.py --internal-only (0 broken), and style_lint.py were run on the combined audit branch that these files were split from.

Reshape the factories overview from a launch-post structure into a
technical overview: a concrete definition up front, one short section
per part of a factory, sizing guidance, and related pages. Removes the
"Who benefits", "What you get", product-table, and "Key terms" sections
and the undefined "delivery policy" coinage. The #sizing-a-factory
anchor that three pages link to is preserved.

Aligns the opening definition on how-factories-work and the docs
homepage with the overview, trims the diagram legend, cuts the salesy
self-improvement framing, and adds the missing Related pages section.

Tighten the opening (drop "tools your team already uses"), make the
component headings parallel, say "repeated failures" consistently, and
note that benchmarks now compare harnesses as well as models and runners
per #841.

Add Microsoft Teams and Azure DevOps to the how-factories-work work
sources legend so it matches the overview, and drop the restated
consequence clause from the overview's Execution section in favor of
naming what the infrastructure page covers.

Same treatment as the factories overview: a concrete opener, three
short lists of what Enterprise adds (administration, security and
compliance, shared team configuration), role-based entry points, and
related pages. Removes the "Who Warp Enterprise is for", "What this
section covers", "Why enterprises choose Warp", and "Support and
resources" sections and the marketing adjectives. Every retained claim
was checked against the enterprise page it links to.

Shorten the lead to two sentences, keep the CTA cards directly under it,
and open a "What a factory does" section for the foreman, example, and
human-checkpoint detail so the body is not an unbroken block of prose
before the first H2. Rewrite the description so it stops repeating the
lead paragraph it renders next to.
